2009-10-24 Midterm Exam is coming

 Dear class,

We'll have midterm exam next Saturday (10/31).  Don't be nervous.  There is only one page and the questions are pretty easy.

The test comprises of 4 parts:

1. Listen to a Chinese character and circle the correct Pinyin.

2. Matching: Chinese words to correct English meanings.

3. Multiple choice.

4. Write Chinese for a four-digit number.

Homework:

Please spend more time in oral exercise.  Start with the pronunciation of a word and then try saying a whole sentence smoothly.  Listen to my recordings and imitate the tonation.

I strongly suggest you repeat all the recordings I have put on my blog EVERY DAY.

1.  --- Click on the character to learn it's definition and usage.  Then, click the "Stroke Order" tab on the page to learn how to write it. Write it 5 times in your Redbook.

2. Complete the second set of flashcards (the one with 星期,今年,對不起。。。).  Bring the cards with you to class next time.  We'll start playing games with the cards.

3. Know the meaning of the words:

1. Prepare for quiz on 10/24.

A) Hanyu Pinyin: I'll say a word in Chinese, and you write the Pinyin.
B) Oral test: Read numbers/sentences; answer questions as in a conversation.

1. Make flash cards:

Cut the words out and paste them on index cards-- one word on one card. (Note: there are 4 two-character words. The two characters have to be cut as one unit.) On the back of the index card, write down the word's Pinyin and meaning.

Here's the assignment for this week.

1. Use YellowBridge.com to view the correct writing of your Chinese Name. As we reviewed in class, there are several ways to enter a Chinese character for search. Please play with the different methods. For your convenience (attention: not LAZINESS), I list all the characters in your names here (in random order for privacy protection). You can copy&paste.
