    Copy the two lines under 萬 on p. 28, and make sure you know the right way to say large numbers in Chinese, including number alone and money.

5. Study Lesson 2 and 3 for the final exam.
    a. Read 課文,including the footnotes.
    b. Make sure you can write all the 生字, their 注音 and Pinyin. (no 部首 for final)
    c. Study the sentences under "句子練習“;know the meaning of the phrases and sentences, and the structure (order of phrases).
    d. Review your old quizzes and Workbook exercises.

2010-10-23 Get Ready for Mid-term Exam

This week's assignment is different from what you did before.  Please make sure you do it as required.

1. For all the new characters (生字)in Lesson One and Lesson Two, write TWICE the character, its 部首,注音,and 漢語拼音(Pinyin). There are 32 characters in total.

2. Study for mid-term exam

To be honest, the exam is a bit challenging, but I think you'll have fun doing it (as long as you 用功).
There are 4 pages, and it includes the following categories:

a. Fill in the blanks with missing Chinese characters.  You'll get 注音 for the blanks, and you need to write correct Chinese characters based on the meaning of the sentence.

b. Corrections: Read the sentences, pick out the wrong characters, and write the correct ones in the blanks.

c. Synonyms: Circle the synonym for the phrase underlined.

d. Circle the correct word/phrase.

e. Fill in the blanks with correct phrase, which you can pick from the word bank given.

f. Write down the 部首,注音,and Pinyin for some Chinese characters (from this week's homework).

g. Make a sentence.

2010-10-09 作文:我的房間 for 演講比賽

五年級的課本內容很多,加上還要準備演講比賽,時間實在不夠用,希望大家在家可以多多用功,如果只靠每個星期六上課兩個小時,很難學得好。

這星期的作業:

1. Workbook 2-2.

2. Complete essay "我的房間".
If you can, please hand it in this Saturday, so that I'll have time to correct and return it to you next week.  After you have your essay with my comments/corrections back, you have to copy the revised version down on another piece of paper.  Then, you can start memorizing it, and prepare for the speech contest.  I hope we can have a "rehersal" in our class before the contest day.


3. Optional: study the new characters and words/phrases on p. 20.

2010-04-24 Homework--Making sentences

For this week's assignment, complete #4 of the handout titled "2010.04.17-IQChinese Lesson 8."


A. Sentence pattern:

    你 什麼時候 要 V?  (When are you going to V?)
    ex. 你什麼時候要睡覺?  (When are you going to sleep?)

B. Terms to use: 吃飯 / 洗澡 / 做功課 / 彈鋼琴 / 回家 / 刷牙 /


==>  Plug the phrases into the sentence pattern and make 6 sentences.   WRITE (not type) the sentences and their English translations on paper.

==>  Read out the sentences loud, three times each.

For your term project, write a self-introduction essay (or if you like, pick up another topic).  Review the sentence patterns and words you've learned, and try to use as many different words/patterns as you can.  Please start your draft now.  I'll review your draft with you on 05/08.  On 05/15, you will make an oral presentation on the essay.  (It's ok to type.)

2010-04-10 Homework & Word Contest

On 04/17 we'll have a Word Recognition Contest.  The rules for our class are:

1. Everyone has 30 seconds for 10 Chinese word cards, which will be drawn randomly and laid out on the table.

2. You have to read out the Chinese word/phrase and then say its English meaning.

3. For each card, you get 1 point for clear Chinese pronunciation and 1 point for correct English meaning.

4. There will be 2 rounds of contests and the two scores will be added up. 

5.  The top 3 winners will be awarded.

So, this week's homework is to prepare for the contest.  All the words/phrases that will be used for the contest are on the list I gave you a few weeks ago.
