第一堂中文課

雙城中文學校秋季班 9月8日開學，我終於和我的學生見面了，大家的表現都不錯，我很開心。
The Twin Cities Chinese Language School started the fall semester on Sept. 8. I finally met my students. Everybody behaved well on the first day of school, which made my very happy.

過了一個暑假，大部份的學生都對中文字有點生疏了，好多字都忘了。
After a long summer vacation, most students' Chinese skills have turned a bit rusty. They even forgot the correct strokes of some very simple charcaters。

至於口語部份，有幾個學生說得不太好，大概是因為在家很少說的緣故。
As to the speaking skills, some students did not do as well as I expected, probably because Chinese Mandarin is not the main language used in their families..

這學期我想讓學生多練習口語，因為大家在發音方面，還不是很標準，特別是聲調，有點怪怪的。
I plan to let them spend more time in speaking/conversation in class this year, because there's room for improvement in almost everyone's pronounciation, tones, and intonation.

回家後，我一直在想，一個禮拜只上兩堂課，實在太少了，要如何提高學生的學習興趣呢？
I've been thinking how to stimulate the students' interest in Chinese learning since I came home that day. Less than two hours a week are far from enough for mastering a language.

為我的班級做一個部落格嗎？也許家長們會同意我貼幾張上課的照片、貼學生的作品，同學們平時也可以上來看看我幫他們找的資料，可以留言、發問。不知道這樣的共同園地，學生們會喜歡嗎？
How about creating a blog for my class? Maybe I can get the parents' consent to post some pictures of the class and even the students' work. During the week, the students can come here to check my postings, to use the leaning resources I found for them, to write comments, or to ask questions. Will they like the idea?

不管啦，試試看吧。
